Boards made to be used every day

A good cutting board should be a pleasure to work on and good-looking enough to leave on the counter. I make mine from contrasting hardwoods glued up into stripes, checkerboards and patterns so no two boards come out quite alike.

End-grain boards show the ends of the wood fibers, which makes a striking checkerboard look and a surface that's easy on knife edges. Edge-grain boards show long stripes of color and are a little lighter. I also add juice grooves, handles and rounded corners depending on how you'll use it.
